My Art Life Story
My story as an artist began when I was very young. I loved watching my Dad paint in his studio in our home. My Dad, Bill Duebber, was a talented acrylic painter and showed his work in galleries in Cincinnati, Ohio and in a few other states. He was partially color blind so I would help him mix colors on occasion that he found difficult to see. He was an amazing artist and I was lucky to have him not only as a great Dad but as a mentor.
Growing up in Cincinnati and then moving out to Sunman, Indiana at age 9, I found myself wanting to sketch and paint the beautiful landscape around me. In grade school, I knew being an artist was what I wanted to spend my life doing. I entered art shows and went to Central Academy of Commercial Art in Cincinnati in 1987. I graduated and then worked as a graphic designer, photographer and illustrator for several years.
In 1997, I met my husband Steve Wanamaker and got married in the Spring of 1998. Shortly after getting married we started our first adventure in the magazine business with Lighthouse Christian Magazine. In 2002 we started another publication called Inspire Cincinnati which was later sold in 2004 to The Gannette Corporation. In 2002 my daughter Hope was born so I spent most of my time raising her and working part-time for the magazine and painting whenever possible.
After adopting my son Micah in 2009, I opened my first art studio located on Main Street in Mason, Ohio. The following year we started another magazine called Venue Lifestyle and Event Guide. My stint teaching art and having my studio had to be put on the back burner as the magazine business grew and took more of my time. I still enjoyed painting, selling my art and doing commission pieces.
After my daughter Hope entered middle school, she began acting and singing in a theatre group called, ROYAL Theatre Company in Mason, Ohio. From 2013 to 2020, I volunteered leading the set painting for all her 11 musicals. It sparked interest in doing more large scale paintings and painting on different surfaces. I started spending more time painting, taking classes, and selling more of my work.
Our business grew into Lead Tribune Media. Our magazines are Venue Lifestyle and Event Guide, comSpark, and Chief Data Officer, CDO magazine. We also do several business award events and a technology conference called ComSpark. I continue to work as the creative director for Venue magazine and spend the other half of my time painting and teaching classes in my Loveland studio at 529 Main Street.
In 2019 I moved my studio to the Loveland Artist’s Studios on Main. It has been a great way to meet other artists, be inspired and have more exposure with my work. I focus on oil abstracts, as well as impressionistic style landscape paintings. Wanamakeart Studio is now my second home in Suite 204.
